IS YOUR NAME WRITTEN IN THE LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE?
The seventy-two returned with joyG5479 and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your
name.” So He told them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given
you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing
will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoiceG5463 that the spirits submit to you, but
rejoiceG5463 that your names are written in heaven.”
Luke 10:17-20
Jesus had sent seventy of His followers in pairs to preach and minister in His name. They returned recounting the tremendous experiences they had on the journey. They were amazed that He had given them authority to cast out demons, but Jesus made it clear that they were rejoicing in the wrong things. What they should rejoice in was not the power to cast out demons or do other miracles; it was the fact that their names were on the roll call for Heaven. Our greatest joy should be the certainty of our salvation and that we are adopted into God’s forever family. If the Lord were to heal me (Susan) completely tomorrow—Yes, I believe that He still works miracles of healing today and am trusting Him to perform one!—of course I would leap for joy. However, I can already rejoice in the fact that I will be totally restored physically, emotionally, and spiritually in that day when I join Him, either by death or meeting Him in the air when He returns for His church. God already sees me as I will be!
Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? Have you surrendered yourself completely to the Lord Jesus? If you are uncertain about any part of becoming a follower of Jesus, please read the “Jewels of Salvation” and “Believers’ Benefits” in the back of this book. From the moment you accept Jesus’s invitation until the moment He receives you home, your joy will progressively increase as the Holy Spirit makes you more and more like Jesus.
Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.
Father, we rejoice that Your grace has set us free from the power of sin and Satan. Our greatest joy is the assurance that our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life meaning that we will spend eternity with Jesus in perfect joy and peace.
