JOYFUL ACCEPTANCE

Remember the early days that you were in the light. In those days, you endured a great conflict in

the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to ridicule and persecution; at other

times you were partners with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison

and joyfullyG5479 accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a

better and permanent possession.

Hebrews 10:32-34

The human writer of Hebrews, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, was encouraging believers who were being persecuted for their faith even to the confiscation or destruction of their homes. They were commended for “counting it all joy” (James 1:2) when they faced these trials. Most of us who live in the United States of America have been blessed to not face persecution of this magnitude, but our brothers and sisters in many countries encounter it daily. Pastors are killed, leaving behind their spouses and children. Many who have been beaten have had the grace to forgive and even return to witness to those who harmed them. You may read their stories of joy in the middle of loss at www.persecution.com. They have this peace and joy because they know they are citizens of Heaven and that Jesus is preparing their eternal home:

John 14:1-6 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Ask yourself whether or not you have the confidence in Christ to face persecution with joyful acceptance. If the answer is no, honestly ask yourself if you have ever surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus as your Savior and Lord. If you are certain of your salvation but still concerned about your ability to face persecution joyfully, ask the Lord for His strength, study His word, and maybe discuss your doubts with your pastor or Bible Study leader.

Father, we trust in Your ability to give us the strength to face persecution for our faith if and when the time comes. Thank You in advance for the perseverance and joy You will give us.
