REJOICE IN GOD’S POWER TO PRESERVE

The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice;H1523 let the distant shores be gladH8055. . . Hate evil, O

you who love the LORD! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them from the hand

of the wicked. Light shines on the righteous, gladnessH8057 on the upright in heart.

RejoiceH8055 in the LORD, you righteous ones, and praise His holy name.

Psalm 97:1, 10-12

This could be a song for the coronation of Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords. Those of us who are Christ-followers—who have surrendered our lives to Jesus as Sovereign over all— should abhor evil because He is holy, perfectly righteous. As our all-powerful King, Jesus delivers us from evil and preserves our souls. Jesus even included a plea for this help in His example prayer:

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

We take joy in knowing that we are not responsible for keeping ourselves in God’s favor. We can never earn or deserve the privilege of being His children. We are only righteous in His eyes because the Father sees the righteousness of Jesus covering us. Once we belong to the Lord by trusting Jesus, we can never lose our position as an adopted child of God. God completes His work in us (Philippians 1:6), no one can snatch us out of His hand (John 10:27-30), and He will enable us to stand (Romans 14:4):

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

John 10:27-30 “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

Joyfully celebrate with confidence that God’s got you and will never let you go! When life’s struggles seem to pile up on you, it can be a challenge to remember; but our God is the faithful and powerful King and will preserve His precious jewels—His children.

Father, You rule over everything, and You have the power to preserve us, Your saints, through the trials of this earth. We have joy knowing we will eventually live with You in perfect peace, love, and joy!
